This and that...

Some of the things happening over here:

Mezcal Tasting - My parents recently traveled to southern Mexico to visit my sister who is out there saving the world. One of the things that they brought back was Mezcal and the proper technique on how to do a tasting. If you have never heard of it look it up here!

Crafting - I started making jewelry again and I am tempted to open up my own little Etsy shop. What do you guys think?

Dancing Lessons - Look at my husbands face...pure fear of what is to come. We are on lesson 3 and so far it has been great. We are not yet ready for our official ballroom debut, but we are getting there. I will blog more about it soon, but let's just say that our dancing dates these past Saturdays have been very therapeutic.

Rainy Day Essentials - For those grey days there is nothing better to cheer me up than some bright lips, cozy beanie and a chai latte

To ombré or not to ombré?

Posted on: Thursday, November 29, 2012

So I have recently reached the milestone of officially having "long" hair. I believe my current length is the longest my hair has ever been in my life. I would always try to grow it out but would end up getting bored and would head to the hair salon to cut it short every time it got near my shoulders. I definitely like longer hair and thanks to Pinterest, awesome tutorials (Thanks TheEveryGirl!!) and the bloggers I follow I now know different ways of styling my hair. However, I am getting that itch again of having something new...but I don't want to reach for the scissors and I don't want to commit to highlights and/or a different color that would be hard to maintain. So what to do??

And no, I didn't mean to write "man" in Spanish and forgot the "h". Ombré is having colors or tones that shade into each other...or at least that's what the dictionary told me it means. I have seen this style all over the magazines and on some of my favorite actresses/celebrities. My hairstylist told me that it originated as a trend during the financial crisis when people didn't want to commit to a hair color that they would have to maintain on a consistent basis. So it's a hairstyle that reflects the current social and economical state of the world?? It would be like a walking 20/20 special on my head! SOLD - But what do you guys think? Should I go for it??

A few new things...

Posted on: Tuesday, November 27, 2012

My last post was dated October 3rd...really? A whole (almost) two months just flew by?? I remember back in college when the time between Thanksgiving break and Christmas break seemed excruciatingly eternal and everyday I hoped for time to just evaporate before my own eyes! Although that was mostly so I wouldn't have to take that Entomology final...what's that fancy word mean anyway? Oh that's right the scientific study of insects! No joke I actually took that class...I won't even bother telling you that the final project involved an "insect collection" which due to my amazing procrastination skills quickly turned into "how many bugs can I find and identify in one night?" kind-of project.
But here we are 5 years later and now all I can think of is how do I stop time from moving so quickly? I want to enjoy every single day with my baby O, especially this time of year when everything seems much more magical. So to catch you up, here are a few new things:

Veterans day visit to Grandpa J. I so wish he could have met baby O, I know they would have really hit it off.

Yay for finally mastering the "sock bun" look! Also, this was the first time I tried the canadian tuxedo and I didn't hate it. Oh and yay for hot pink cap-toe flats!

Trying this new combo: ruby lips (Revlon Super Lustrous "Cherries in the Snow") thanks to Lisa Eldridge's amazing tutorial + sparkly gems via Spike The Punch

Baby O's new found love for all things Minnie Mouse...and requests for mommy to sing the theme song to Minnie's Bowtique (Bow..tique...get it?? hehe) every 15 minutes.

A red moment

Dress: Asos, Shoes: Madewell (via eBay), Cardigan: random boutique

The heat wave continues! So I am taking advantage and wearing all of my dresses. I love the deep red color of this one and I can see myself styling it with some boots and tights later in the fall. I am so happy that the weekend is finally here. It has been the kind of week where you start counting down to Friday....on Tuesday.
This weekend baby O and I are attending a play date titled "Babies and Ladies"...which is funny because sometimes baby O and I can swap the titles and it would still fit. For example: when we visited the doctor this morning, she was such a little lady taking that Flu shot like a champ....and I was the baby fighting back the tears!

Have a great weekend everyone!

It's a zoo out there...

Posted on: Monday, October 1, 2012

Look, it's the real life Sophie!

This past weekend we took baby O to our local zoo and had a great time. Although it is sad to see wild animals in captivity (I'm pretty sure the lion was looking at me thinking "yeah let's see you confined to this cage") it was a good day and baby O got to see some animals she has been reading about up close. I am in awe of our little girl, she is so brave (feeding that giraffe like a pro... did you notice I stayed safely back "taking the picture"?) and she is always having fun. Sometimes I wish I could swap places with her so I could rediscover the joys of the little running through the misters on a hot day!
On the fashion side, I finally gave the whole peplum trend a try and I am happy to say I am a convert. The top I am wearing is Pim + Larkin (via and the jewel tone will be fun to wear through the fall.

Baseball Tee: Madewell (similar here), pants: Jcrew (old), Shoes: random shop in Buenos Aires, lipstick: NARS schiap

My stripe obsession continues! This time I paired a comfy baseball tee with some pastel pants. Even though it is officially fall, the weather here is still in the 90's (global warming much?) so I am taking advantage and dressing in bright summery colors.

Museum sundays

Posted on: Thursday, September 20, 2012

This past weekend we took baby O to the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. If you have never been then slap yourself....ok that was a joke, but really you should go next time you find yourself in San Francisco. The building itself is worth a visit, it is completely made out of perforated copper which will turn green with time due to oxidation (thank you AP Chemistry!) and it will make the museum blend in with the park. We caught the last day of the "Real to Real" photography exhibit. If you are not into museums and/or art then you should still go and ride the elevator up to the observation tower (entrance is free!) and enjoy 360 degree (and one of the best) views of the city. Or if you are baby O just go up there to run around and have mommy chase you in front of strangers.

Inspired stripes

Posted on: Tuesday, September 18, 2012

Dress Anthropologie (anniversary gift from the husband), shoes Nine West via Ross (on sale for $15, score!)

I have a slight obsession with stripes so when I spotted this dress on one of my favorite blogs Gal Meets Glam I was inspired to recreate the same look. It was the ideal dress to wear for my 5 year anniversary weekend in San Francisco...and by "weekend" I really mean one night away from my baby O. I bet you are asking yourself "You have been married 5 years already, but you look SO young!" (ok ok...I know I am the only one asking myself that). Well I am going to tell you a little love story that goes like this:

Act 1. Girl goes to college...meets cute but quiet guy in the dorm hallway...helps him find his dorm room a few doors down because he may or may not have imbibed in great quantities of beer soda.
Act 2. Girl and cute/quiet boy become friends
Act 3. Girl and boy go to a house party and recreate a Beatles song:

Well, my heart went "boom",
When I crossed that room,
And I held her hand in mine...

Whoa, we danced through the night,
And we held each other tight,
And before too long I fell in love with her.
Now I'll never dance with another,
Since I saw her standing there.

Act 4. Cute boy tells girl he loves her (while wearing a toga...oh college I miss you!) and girl reciprocates the feeling.
Act 5. Boy borrows a suit jacket and asks the girls parents for her hand in marriage, they toast with soda (no, really they did...boy wasn't 21 yet)
Act 6. Boy proposes, girl says YES
Act 7. Girl marries cute boy from dorm hallway!

Many acts to be added to this little story, but so far I am a big fan.

All about dresses...

Posted on: Thursday, September 13, 2012

This is my first "outfit of the day" style's a little scary to write about yourself and there is a little voice in my head that sings "you're soooo vain..." when I take pictures of myself and the clothes I wear. But what is life without fears? So here goes....

Dress JCrew (on sale!), belt Anthropologie (old), sunglasses (stolen from husband), lipstick  NARS schiap

This summer I became a dress lover. I am usually a jeans and top person, but dresses became my obsession this summer for two main reasons:

1. Have you ever worn pants in 100+ degree weather?'s not a pretty picture. But then I can't really wear shorts and a tank-top to work so what to do???? Dress to the rescue!

2. You know those mornings when your husband turns off your alarm clock but then doesn't tell you (or he does tell you but he forgets you are not 100% conscious at 5:30am)?? And then you have to run around like a madwoman getting yourself and the precious baby ready and the last thing you have time to do is put together a decent look?? (oh you don't have those kind of mornings? Ok big eye roll high five from me to you!) Dress to the rescue! Just put it on and add shoes and you are ready to go.

Dear husband, happy birthday

Posted on: Sunday, August 26, 2012

We took a pedicab to the game....we would have gotten there faster walking, but hey at least someone got a workout!

Like father, like daughter

It is not summer without some baseball! When the husband and I lived in San Francisco we lived within walking distance of AT&T Park and would go all the time. Back then we would decide on a whim to go and we would rush down to the stadium to have a margarita (or two or three) before the game at Mijitas which is a new(ish) restaurant attached to the ballpark. Now that we are a family of three we have to do a little bit more planning and we don't go once a month but we have still managed to take baby O to a few games. This past time we surprised K with tickets to a day game against the NY Mets (his no. 2 team) for his birthday. Ok, that was a lie...we are really bad at keeping surprises so I told him a few days before that we were going to go. But I didn't tell him that his parents would meet us there so it still counts as a surprise right?
We had a great day even though the actual game was one of the worst losses for the Giants I have ever witnessed (happy birthday husband!). The weather was perfect and we were even able to meet up with my high school friend who happened to be at the same game. Afterwards we went to the Ferry Building to have some dinner and cake and some Blue Bottle coffee  (K's favorite). And since it was a day game we even managed to get home before curfew baby O's bedtime. So really, a perfect summer day!

The one where baby O gives me a heart attack

Posted on: Monday, July 16, 2012

Miss baby O has become very mobile in the last month. She is not walking on her own just yet, but she is a pro crawler & climber. Her abilities seem to go from high-achieving amateur to Olympic athlete whenever there is a cell phone/laptop/kindle in sight. Last week I left her playing in her room with her wooden blocks, since our apartment has an open layout I went to the living room from where I could still see her. However, as soon as I turned my back for a second she was gone! When I turned around and couldn't see her I went to her room and assumed I would find her trying to get into the closet (Who needs toys when you can play with mom's shoes??) but to my horror she was no longer in her room. So I literally raced over to my room, with my heart somewhere around my ankles and there she was. Sitting proudly on top of our bed and typing away on her daddy's laptop with the biggest smile I have ever seen. Welcome to toddlerhood mom!

"Daddy won't mind if I add some things to his spreadhseet"

"Mom is walking very fast towards me....Must.Bang on this keyboard type faster!"

Missing Mexico

Posted on: Thursday, July 12, 2012

I left my heart in Zacatecas.... this always happens when I go and visit my family. I used to go once a year while in high school and in college I would spend almost 2 months just eating, drinking, exploring and spending time with my crazy family. This year was the first time I had been back since being married (5 years!) and it was surreal to return with a baby of my own. I will post some pictures (courtesy of my brother) of that vacation soon. In the meantime, I have been gravitating towards all things Mexican to help me ease the heartache a little bit. So baby O and I dressed in our hand embroidered pieces and enjoyed a walk downtown. Side note: these pictures were taken after 8pm...the sun was still out and I am pretty sure it was over 90 degrees! Anyone who doesn't believe in climate change has not been to California on a summer day.

Afternoon in the park

Posted on: Wednesday, July 11, 2012

We recently moved to a new apartment and we are in love! We have always had our eye on this apartment complex because of its location and charm. It is one of the original apartment buildings in town. It is also conveniently located in the heart of downtown and across the street from a great park and the weekly farmers market. We love taking baby O to the play structure and teaching her how to go down the slide. We always bring a lot of toys and books to read, but as you can see our cell phones win the prize for entertainment every time!

The big ONE!

Posted on: Wednesday, May 30, 2012

I can't believe my beautiful baby O is now a year old! It seems like yesterday that I thought I had peed my pants when in fact my water had broken one week ahead of time. (Note to self for future pregnancies: urine incontinence does not develop suddenly at 39 weeks gestation) After a very long labor and some mild jaundice we finally brought home the sweetest baby girl.

These last 12 months have flown by and everyday I am more in love with my little family. Motherhood has been a wonderful adventure!
Here are some pictures of baby O's birthday party. It was a great day with delicious food and all our friends and family.
