Rain rain go away...

Posted on: Tuesday, June 25, 2013

My last post was a "Cheers!" to the summer season. And now here we are just a few days into Summer and we have rain... make up your mind lady nature!

Here are some things I love on days like today:

1. Reading
Listening to the rain while enjoying coffee, a yummy breakfast and the New York Times is heaven. And yes I know this makes me sound like an old grandpa, but I am OK with that.

2. Indoor playtime
Who doesn't love building train tracks, reading, and being silly inside while you hear the rain?
Also, that's a Disney princess castle you see in the background. Confession time: I never understood the whole love for Disney first time at the park was just a few years ago as an adult. But man....the things you do for your kids! Let's just say that thanks to that little castle I now know the tunes and background stories to some ladies named Belle & Aurora.

Summer Solstice

Happy Friday! Happy first day of Summer!

When I saw this dress I knew I had to add it to my summer staples. It is so light and fun and perfect for those hot days when you know you will end up looking like you tried to run a marathon but failed miserably on mile no. 3
I plan on dressing it up with a blue blazer and neutral heels for a date night with the husband (hint hint husband if you are reading this)

Anthropologie Dress (on sale!)
Wedges, random boutique in Argentina (6 years old!)
Lipstick: Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro No. 400

This and that...

Happy Thursday! This week has flown by and I just can't bring myself to believe that it is already mid June. June 21st is the Summer Solstice, that means that tomorrow will be the longest day of the year and the earth will be as close as it can tilt towards the sun. Whoa!

Here are some things I am enjoying in the sunlight right now:

1. Our Summer Tradition
Weekly picnics out in the sun at the Farmer's Market. Jumpy houses, slides, food, live music! No wonder a little someone I know gets this excited every Wednesday.

2. Cool Shades
Best way to protect your eyes from the sunlight? Minnie Mouse polka dotted shades!

3. Yummy Cocktails
Ok, this one has nothing to do with the Sun or the Summer Solstice other than this is what I would like to be drinking on June 21st, 2013 at around 5:30 pm

Pink pants party pants

Posted on: Tuesday, June 18, 2013

I've had this crochet top in my closet for many years (I even wore it when I was pregnant) but I always felt that it didn't stand out enough when I paired it with my usual jeans. So this time I paired it with some pink/coral pants and it made a huge difference. To keep the look from screaming "Easter Egg!" I kept the rest of the accessories neutral. I love reaching into my closet and giving some of the old pieces new life! What are some pieces that you are bringing back from the depths of your closet?

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend celebrating the fathers in your life.
Here are two that I like a lot:

1. "Daddy"
It's surreal to look at my daughter and see that she is a mini version of the husband. But it warms my heart more than a hot toddy on a cold winter night! I am blessed to have such a wonderful partner to raise this magical little person. Thank you lovey for being such an amazing daddy to our sweet baby O.

2. Papi
I wouldn't be the person I am without my dad, and as cheesy as that sounds it is true! When I was younger I used to hate hearing his voice in my head when I was about to make important decisions. But as an adult I now understand what great tools he has given me. I am lucky to be his daughter.

Not so tropical...

Posted on: Friday, June 14, 2013

This weekend we escaped the heat by spending the day in the city. I packed a picnic and headed with my loves to Baker Beach. As with all northern California beaches, the weather is not what you normally picture when you think "beach". And therefore people will laugh at you if you show up looking like you just stepped out of the Victoria Secret swimsuit calendar .

So I packed hats, beanies, sweaters, jackets and blankets. However we forgot to explain to baby O that we were not headed to a tropical beach. She was a trooper at first and seemed to enjoy having a picnic until some dogs showed up and frightened her dad tried to take her food. Then when we took her closer to the water the sound of the waves scared her and she was not much of a trooper at that point. So we ended up with some unplanned tears (and runny noses).
My heart melts a little bit every time she gets sad, but another part of me wants her to understand that sometimes, life is not a tropical getaway! Once in a while we will have to endure some wind, some cold, some snot, but we should always try to make the best of it and still enjoy ourselves.

When in doubt, add flowers

Lately I have been drawn to simple dresses that I can easily dress up for a date night or dress down for the weekends. This little black number is so flattering and versatile and I have worn it to many different types of events. This time I added a new J. Crew crystal flower necklace I scored through eBay. The color is a very vivid coral red and it just made the dress "pop".
